Mezco Toyz One:12 Popeye Figure Review

Mezco Toyz Popeye
Popeye the Sailor Man was one of the first cartoons I was introduced to as a child. I loved the goofiness of the show and how spinach gave him muscles to take on his challenges. First introduced in 1929, Popeye has become one of the most recognized cartoon characters of all time. I really liked the other characters such as Olive Oyl and Bluto as well. They really added to Popeye's character. Now we have an excellent figure from Mezco that a lot of people are calling the figure of the year.  Let's take a closer look at this sailor and see what we think about him.

Pros
  • Two excellent head sculpts
  • Seven different hands
  • Costume is well made and removable
  • Three interchangeable hats
  • Three pipes
  • Three pipes with smoke
  • Two cans of spinach (one open and one closed)
  • Compass
  • Spy Glass
  • Duffel Bag
Cons
  • Legs can be a little hard to keep in the right position to pose him
Figure
Mezco has taken some leaps with certain characters they have released, including Popeye, which have been a success.  From head to toe Popeye is an excellent figure with so many extras that really allow for a lot of different looks.  He is packed with a bunch of character specific accessories that are well made and function well. The body itself seems to be sturdy and well made, but the hips can be a little tight so be careful with them when you first open him.
The figure itself is very versatile and offers lots of features and options to produce a bunch of cool looks for him.  I really like the forearm molds. They are well done and really stand out on him.  One of the things I think of when I buy figures is I wish it came with extras of the smaller accessories that could possibly break or get lost.  In this case Mezco really covers its collectors with extra pipes if you lose one or if it breaks (they are sturdy).  All of his accessories fit well and don't slide around or fall off. This is a big deal with me as it seems to be common place that most companies have issues with this.
Overall
As I mentioned before, 2018 had a ton of great releases from Mezco but people are calling this their figure of the year.  I have enjoyed all of Mezco's releases this year and feel that Popeye is very close to the top of them all.  Popeye provides so many extras and such a unique look that he is an easy buy for anyone that is a fan of Popeye. Mezco has also released an exclusive sailor edition that we will also be reviewing in the future.  Grab them quick before the price gets really high on them!
