Mezco Toyz One:12 Darkseid Figure Review

Mezco Toyz Darkseid
Darkseid starts at the top of any list when it comes to all time super villains.  He is the father of other villains (Orion, Kalibak, Grayven, and Grail) that all carry their own weight in the DC world of comics.  Darkseid is the ruler Apokolips but desires to conquer the universe and of course crush all free will. Darkseid has so many abilities that beating him takes an army of superheros fighting against him at full strength.  Does Mezco provide us with an ultimate version of Darkseid, or is this figure not worth the hype?

Pros
  • Made of poly-stone with over 28 points of articulation
  • Light up helmet with 4 different face plates
  • Metal chest plate and shoulder armor
  • Removable cape
  • Mother Box
Cons
  • Articulation could be better in the elbows and legs
  • Right knee is a little loose
  • Light up effect doesn't look great with laser eyes
Figure
Darkseid is a heavy figure with good proportions and great details.  I was concerned with the materials used to make him that this would be come a big heavy bumbling figure, but that's just not the case.  He stands easily and has good movement in his knees and hip joints.  The suit he is wearing is a little short at the leg area, and I probably would have liked it to be a little longer.  The rest of the body and suit are well done with the only issue being his elbows don't have that max articulation in some poses.
The head is a very unique piece for this figure. Mezco provides four choices to go with along with the light up eyes feature.  The face plates connect with a magnet and can easily be swapped. The light switch is located  under his head and must be turned on before you place the head back on the body. The only one of the heads that doesn't light up great is the laser head, but I expected this when I first preorderd him.
The cape and magnets are well made and strong which is very important for this figure.  It's hard to decide what pose and look to go with (with or without the cape).  He does hold poses pretty well and is pretty balanced from head to toe with his weight. He is also not enormous but sizes larger than most Mezco figures they have made in the past.
Overall
Darkseid is a fun unique take on what Mezco has been putting out, and I like what they have done.  The articulation is the only thing that is a little hindered but overall its a great figure.  The light up features are not a waste and you won't have trouble posing him.  I have seen some people concerned about his price point, but he is worth it with what Mezco has put into him.
