Mezco Toyz 2018 NYCC 5 Ronin Wolverine Figure Review

Mezco Toyz 5 Ronin Wolverine
As many of you know by now I love Wolverine as he is my favorite superhero. There can never be too many Wolverine figures for me. I was pleasantly surprised when Mezco announced that they would be making a 5 Ronin version of Wolverine. I bet you never knew you needed a Wolverine with a man bun! The 5 Ronin Wolverine is based on Marvel's 2011 five issue series. Each issue focuses on a different character (Wolverine, Hulk, the Punisher, Psylocke, and Deadpool) and takes place during 17th century feudal Japan.

Pros
  • Phenomenal soft goods
    • Kimono style robe
    • Traditional Japanese hakama pants
    • Belt
    • Posable wired scarf
  • Traditional Japanese wooden Geta style shoes
  • Two head sculpts
  • Seven interchangeable hands
  • Two katana swords (one long and one short)
Cons
  • No sheath for the swords (however, you can get creative and find a few different ways to display them within the outfit)
Figure
This is Mezco's fifth Wolverine released to date (with at least one more on the way). Every fan of Wolverine knows that Japan plays a huge role in the storyline of him. While this is from the feudal Japan Ronin storyline and not the regular Japan storyline this made me very happy as I've been dying to have a samurai type version of Logan.

The first thing you will notice is that the soft goods are insanely well done on this figure. The traditional Japanese outfit clearly had much thought put into it and is extremely detailed from head to toe. It also has a 100% new head sculpt, and the "man bun" head is perfect for this figure and will be the one that I will use to display this figure with a majority of the time.

I had zero problems with the articulation or with the figure's ability to hold poses. Even with the oddly shaped Geta style shaped shoes he stands and poses well. The wired scarfed was a nice touch and allows you to pose it any number of ways. I particularly like using it as a blowing in the wind type of effect.
Overall
This is the perfect type of figure to have as an exclusive. It is not an essential version of the character for everyone to must have, but it is still a version that every single Wolverine fan will want to own. It also allowed Mezco to go in a new direction and try something altogether different.  As a huge Wolverine fan there isn't really much I can nit pick about this figure, and I am happy to have him in my collection.

As always keep your PayPal accounts ready! You never know when another sneak attack exclusive figure will go up for sale!
