I just recently got both the new NES Jason as well as the Ultimate Jason figures by NECA. Both of these are awesome, but today's review will focus on the VGA Jason. A similar version of this figure came out in 2013 as a SDCC exclusive figure. Many people missed out on this figure at that time, and  it has since become a highly coveted action figure. I have wanted one for years, but refused to feed the scalpers on eBay and pay their outrageous prices. As usual, patience and perseverance pays off. 

NECA knew that many collectors really wanted a crack at this figure. They didn't just merely re-release the same figure. They made some awesome improvements. The original version came with the iconic mask and a hatchet and had glow in the dark features.

For those of you who follow Randy Falk on Twitter, you know that he has many "surprises" in store for us fans over the next few months. One of them recently came out and it is the Retro NES Nightmare on Elm Street Figure exclusive to Toys R Us. The response to this guy has been amazing. Fans were certainly hyped to hear this news. They now have a retro NES Freddy to go with their retro NES Jason's!!!!! Ya can't have one without the other!

I hope everyone who wanted one was able to snag one. According to friends on Twitter, it sounds like scalpers are having a field day with this one...some asking as much as $75. Of course, scalpers are scum and take the fun out of collecting, but that is a tale for another day.

NECA NES Godzilla Figure Review

GODZILLA: MONSTER OF MONSTERS

The NES Godzilla is a figure that we have been patiently anticipating for a looong time. We first laid eyes on this work of art all the way back in September when we were at NECA studios. As soon as we saw this we immediately knew that this was going to be a hit. It is so different from any of the other VGA figures and the paint, pixels, and details are fantastic. Now the game may have sucked, but this figure is AWESOME!

Packaging:

The NES Godzilla comes in the usual window box which is stylized to look like the original NES game packaging. The box is a little bit wider than the ones used for past NECA VGA action figures. The cover art is spot on as usual. When you open up the box the left side has a picture from the main hex grid screen which is where the monsters and levels are in the game. NECA's license with TOHO is very specific and only applies to Godzilla. For that reason, NECA had to improvise with the grid because they are restricted from using any other of the monsters. They did a good job with this despite not having access to the other monsters. The right side of the box is the window with the figure. The top has the health/power bar. There is also a pixelated background behind the figure.

Sweet Gremlins, they are so nice, fury and cute aren't they?  Not this menacing Gremlin, since I've brought him home he's been nothing but trouble!  During our recent visit with Randy Falk and the NECA toys crew, we were able to see the final product of the NES 8-Bit Mohawk Gremlin.  NECA truly spends equal time on their collectibles and the packaging art for all their items.  I am sorry to say I don't have any pictures of the final box art as Randy was kind enough to provide me with a sample.  The ride home was a mess, as Mohawk would not stop tearing up my car and Jon was trying to keep him at bay.  Well he is home now, and he is under a watchful eye 24/7, let's get into the great details of this figure!

Packaging:

Since I don't have the actual packaging, I can only give a fair review based off of the final item we were able to see at NECA.  YOU WILL LOVE IT!  Stay tuned as this fits right in will all of the vintage video game figures being produced!

I love all of the Gremlins figures NECA has made, but this Mohawk figure is so unique that it's by far my favorite one.  The paint is very detailed and shows a great mix of vintage 8-Bit NES colors.  He has a nice mix of yellow, black, and a few different shades of grey to polish off his awesome look.  The mouth opens well, his head has great movement, and he even stands very well on his own. You will want to constantly play with this figure like you are 6 years old! 

Accessories:

The gun is one of the coolest things about this figure!  It's made well, and fits in his hands a bunch of different ways to give you a lot of pose ability options.  Now even though he comes with a gun, he also literally has an infinite amount of items to use around your house to just flat out make you laugh.  My wife is a huge Gremlins fan, and when I told her I received this figure, she was not happy that it wasn't for her.  This Gremlin is so cool that it made my wife, who's not crazy about my collection, upset it wasn't going to be hers!

Overall:

I love this figure to death!  He is a lot of fun to just carry around, pose and just play with!  His colors really stand out, and give him a mean look that fits him perfectly.

NECA ALIEN 3 Video Game Dog Review

We received the video game City Hunter and the video game Dog Alien at the same time. I have to say it is hard for me to pick a favorite. They compliment each other extremely well. If you buy one then you have to buy the other! 

The original Dog Alien that came out a few months back was already my favorite Xenomorph that NECA had come out with up to this point (excluding the Queen, of course). This one just kicks it up a notch in a fun way. That is what is so fun about the retro video game line...we get to see these awesome paint apps that just make the figures pop! The figure is half blue and half brown so you can find all kinds of different ways to pose this guy when playing with or photographing him. This is strictly my personal opinion, but I LOVE the blue on this figure. Pictures are cool and all and fun to take, but you really need to get this in your hands to truly appreciate it. 

Any one who is familiar with the first Dog Alien knows how ridiculously poseable and articulated this guy is. Whether you want to stretch him out to nearly 11" tall or ball him up like he is ready to pounce you will find no shortage of fun poses. Your imagination is the limit.

Any one who was a fan of either the NES or SEGA versions of the ALIEN 3 game will want to have this. I have heard a few people say "I dunno, man. I'm not really into the Aliens." Well, my response to that is if you are going to buy one Alien then make it this one. You will not be disappointed, and most likely, you will find yourself buying more Xeno's in the future. Also, any collector of  the retro video game line HAS to have this to complete the collection. We all know that this movie sucked, but I can assure that the figure kicks ass!

The figure comes in the same sick packaging that the other retro video game figures come with. They no longer come with the shrink wrap (which is good because it lets you see the figure in the store) and comes with a flap with a velcro tab to keep it closed. The only accessory he comes with is the stand, but you don't anything more than that with this guy. The stand helps you find those perfect poses for this beast.

There is really only so much you can say about this guy. One of the funnest parts of collecting these to us is taking them out and letting our creative sides come out by photographing them. I can write all the words in the world about a figure, but the pictures speak for themselves. Just take a look below and you will see how sick this figure is. We like to open our figures here at CobraShadowJoes. I would encourage you all to do the same and free them...and ENJOY them! Photographing them is a not only fun, but a great stress reliever. As I said earlier, the possibilities are endless...you can pretty much do whatever you can imagine.
