GODZILLA!!!! Even though King Kong is my ultimate favorite monster how can you not like Godzilla?!? (Godzilla is Steve's favorite though...he has a thing for reptiles). This is an awesome looking iteration of Godzilla from the 2016 Shin Godzilla film. I was particularly hyped about this figure because of how awesome the purple looked on him! Well, let's see how well that dope glowing purple look translated once it was put into action figure form.

I have been waiting with much anticipation (for a loooooooong time) for both the NES Godzilla and 1954 Godzilla by NECA. They are both awesome in different ways, and it is impossible for me to pick one of them over the other. 

A few months ago Steve and I went up to Hillside, NJ to hang out at the NECA Studio with Randy and the rest of the crew. We saw lots of amazing things that day (most of which we can't speak about). When we were walking around the studio I spotted a loose '54 Godzilla. That was my first time seeing it in person, and it was love at first sight. Ever since that moment I have been saying repeatedly how bad I wanted to have it.

That brings me to how I obtained this figure when it's not out yet. Well, sadly, as many of you know my father passed away at the beginning of the month after a courageous eight year battle with Prostate cancer. I worked with my dad so I was lucky enough to see him every day. He wasn't just my dad, or my boss, but my role model and friend. Although, we knew for a long time that this day would come there is no way to really prepare for it. On Sunday, August 2 the time came to say goodbye.

GODZILLA: MONSTER OF MONSTERS

The NES Godzilla is a figure that we have been patiently anticipating for a looong time. We first laid eyes on this work of art all the way back in September when we were at NECA studios. As soon as we saw this we immediately knew that this was going to be a hit. It is so different from any of the other VGA figures and the paint, pixels, and details are fantastic. Now the game may have sucked, but this figure is AWESOME!

Packaging:

The NES Godzilla comes in the usual window box which is stylized to look like the original NES game packaging. The box is a little bit wider than the ones used for past NECA VGA action figures. The cover art is spot on as usual. When you open up the box the left side has a picture from the main hex grid screen which is where the monsters and levels are in the game. NECA's license with TOHO is very specific and only applies to Godzilla. For that reason, NECA had to improvise with the grid because they are restricted from using any other of the monsters. They did a good job with this despite not having access to the other monsters. The right side of the box is the window with the figure. The top has the health/power bar. There is also a pixelated background behind the figure.

Godzilla is on FIRE!

What's up, everyone?  We are doing great because yesterday we received the NECA Burning Godzilla!  We were able to see this figure a few times before getting the final product and it's amazing!  The Godzilla line that NECA is doing is really bringing the monster back to the collectible world!  This particular Godzilla looks so detailed and ANGRY. You would be too if you were burning in the middle of a battle with Destoroyah!  So without any further delay let's get to the details of this cool figure I just had to rip open!

Packaging:

NECA has become widely known for their own creative art and packaging to go along with the amazing collectibles they produce from the ground up.  The Godzilla line doesn't fall short. You walk into the store and the figures pop right off of the shelves.  The art on the front and back brings me back to the movies and memories of watching them with my father, talking about who is going to beat who!  I am very impressed with the back picture used for this figure. It totally captures the perfect portrayal of the figure.

The figure is well made and painted with lots of detail.  The tail snaps in the back with a ball joint that allows all kind of movement up and down for the tail.  It's so detailed that they have put pieces all the way through the tail to move/pose it just the way you want it.  We know Godzilla breathes nuclear fire, but that tail is also a weapon that has pummeled many enemies.  The fire effect really shines through on the figure no matter what angle you are looking at him.  He literally lights up in the pictures and on your shelf...he steals the show!  His legs and arms move well along with his jaw.  I was able to use micro machines in my pictures, because I believe they are perfect scale for this figure.  I eventually plan to have all the Godzilla's dominating my micro machines display. Now, tell me you wouldn't want to do that!  Jon and I were also discussing how there has been so many Godzilla figures made since we were kids and how poorly they were all done. This is the Godzilla line that I wanted as a kid...to destroy all my other toys!

 

 Bottom Line:

As we continue to review all of these great products NECA produces we see a trend. The combination of the many great ideas NECA has, along with Randy Falk leading the charge, and their interactions/close attention paid to what their fans want is really paying off.  They are creating new lines and ideas everyday based off so many factors, but they are getting it right.  This Burning Godzilla is a beautiful piece, and it's just a ton of fun to play with.  I love his paint scheme, his look, the eyes...it all just gives you that feeling of I would not want to F*** with this monster!  Now that you see what an amazing figure this is, be on the lookout for him!  This is the perfect figure to start your NECA Godzilla collection, because once you get one of them you will want them all!

NECA Toys Steals the Show at 2015 Toy Fair

If you have been following our coverage of Toy Fair on our Twitter feed then you know that NECA Toys brought it this year. Literally, every single item that they had on display was a home run, and there isn't any other company that I can say that about (although there were some other spectacular things that we will post about soon). 

We had a 2:00 pm appointment with Randy at the NECA booth on Saturday, but of course Steve and I couldn't wait that long to see what they had in store for us. We made our way to the NECA booth and were amazed by what we saw. Upon entering their booth I was immediately hit with a bad case of A.D.D. Haha I just couldn't keep my eyes focused with so many awesome things all in one place. 

Where do we even start? Let's start with an item I have been dying to talk about, the NES Godzilla. Steve and I got to see it in person at the NECA studios back in September. We had to keep this awesome secret to ourselves for all this time. : ) I love this figure and I wouldn't change one single thing about him. The paint scheme and added pixels look exactly the same as it does in the video game. It's nice to see NECA keeping things fresh and giving each new NES figure a different take.

The next item is something we have all been waiting for for a LOOOOOOONG time, John Matrix of COMMANDO! Oh yes!!! The wait is over. Steve and I often talk about figures we would like to see made and John Matrix has always been at the top of that list. He looks amazing. The sculpt and likeness is dead-on accurate and he comes with tons of great weapons and accessories. I can't wait to get him!

Predators are one of my favorites lines that NECA makes and the AVP line did not disappoint. They made them just right. They didn't go with that super fake looking, hefty 'roided out look. They made them in the more classic look we are accustomed to, and I am very thankful for that. The armor, weapons, and details are excellent. And, of course, the Dark Horse and retro video game Predators are fantastic. I will be spending a lot of money on Predator figures this year.

The NES Gremlin is kick ass. I don't own any NECA Gremlin figures yet, but this guy will be my first one. I don't have the time to go into deep detail on every single figure in just one post, but wow there are a lot of goodies coming our way! We're talking T2, GENISYS, ALIENS, HOME ALONE, POTA, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, SUPERMAN.

If you are not excited about T2, or the Power Loader, or the Alien six pack then I am worried that you might not have a pulse.

Once we went for our scheduled appointment Randy took us around and answered every single question that we had..and we had A LOT!!! Randy is truly a class act and treated us extremely well. We had a half hour appointment and Randy spent an entire hour with Steve and I. He truly is the best in the business. He was even kind enough to take us into the back and show us some goodies that aren't ready to be shown to the public yet. :) Sorry, we can't tell you what those are but just know that they're going to be awesome as always and minds will be blown.

The craziest part of it all is that NECA had so many outstanding items on display and it was all only for the first half of the year!!! Wow, I can't wait to see what's in store for us for the rest of the year!
